from Origins is treated more as a "oh, so you paid close attention and remember this" moment than it is a "break out that wallet, consumer drone, you're gonna need the other game to even get why this is here" bit. You could, in theory at least, play Asylum, City and Knight without ever touching Origins and Blackgate and be just fine in terms of having absorbed the run of the story (the fact that Rocksteady reference events/etc. That said, I don't think WB really cares a great deal about it overall when the Rocksteady titles (save for the blunderingly bad PC port of Arkham Knight initially) were the ones to really rake in the most money and when talked about, comprise the "trilogy" of Batman titles as far as the games are concerned. Rocksteady even reference things that happen in it in Arkham Knight which is better than the ultimate fate of The Cartel. Wolfsite: Is Arkham Origins considered the Call of Juarez: The Cartel of the Arkham Series? Seconding what's already been said, but I don't think it is.
